Derbyshire Community Male Voice Choir performed its Platinum Anniversary Concert, “70 Years in Harmony” on Saturday 13 June 2026, at St Peter’s Church, Church Lane, Belper and the concert was attended by over 300 people
The male voice choir were joined by two outstanding local choirs for the celebratory evening — Rolls-Royce Ladies Choir and Kitchen Chorus — bringing audiences a rich programme of much-loved songs. The choirs sang 26 pieces between them and the night culminated in a stunning massed-voices finale, filling St Peter’s Church. The audience also joined in with an enthusiastic performance of the Beatles classic, “Hey Jude.”

The concert was attended by HM Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Liz Fothegill as well as the Mayor of Derby, Councillor Jonathan Smale and the Mayor of Belper, Councillor Katie Harris.
A message from His Majesty the King, wishing the choir every success for the evening was read out as well as a congratulatory message from the world famous Treorchy Male Choir.
In keeping with the choir’s long tradition of supporting local causes, the concert raised over £850 on the night for Umbrella, Derby, which supports local families and is the choir’s chosen charity for 2026. The choir has been raising money for Umbrella throughout the year and will be handing over a cheque for a total of £2,100.
The choir’s repertoire is wide and varied, covering everything from classical and sacred pieces to music from the shows, sea shanties, folk songs and modern pop. Seventy years on, the choir continues to go from strength to strength, bringing people together in fellowship to enjoy a shared love of music, singing and community. With a proud history behind them and an exciting future ahead, they remain a vibrant part of Derby’s cultural life – ready to welcome new members and new audiences for many years to come.
The choir is always looking for new voices and as a community choir no audition is required. From 7th September 2026 the choir will be rehearsing every Monday night from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the Multi Faith Centre, University of Derby, Kedleston Road DE22 1GB and anyone interested is welcome to just come along.
