Who remembers the 1980s, when New Romantics, punks, Goths, David Bowie, Vivienne Westwood, Adam Ant, Laura Ashley and Lady Di reigned supreme?
This is the era that has inspired the costumes and music for the High Tor Players’ new production of “As You Like It”, William Shakespeare’s beloved comedy which is showing at the Imperial Rooms Matlock at 7.30 each night plus the matinee
The gentle, unworldly Duke Senior has been deposed and banished by his own brother, the vain and unstable Duke Frederick. He goes into exile in the Forest of Arden, like Robin Hood, the focus for his “merry men” (and women) as well as for the audience.
The fairytale love-story between the true Duke’s daughter Rosalind, and the outcast but noble Orlando, has enchanted audiences since 1599, but here it has a 20th century twist, with live music and costumes inspired by the 1980s–another time of social change.
We do hope you will join us in the Forest of Arden for a night to remember, plus a very good bar. Admission at £12.50 is by ticket only.
There is a “pay what you can” matinee at 2 pm on Saturday, May 2nd . See our website for details. Our autumn production of ‘The Crucible’ was a near sellout so please book early to avoid disappointment.
