Derby celebrates Great Big Green Week in June with free event

Event to celebrate Great Big Green Week will take place in Derby this month – thanks to the  St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District (BID). Activities will run throughout the week across the city and will include work in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter to refurbish and replant flower boxes and flower beds.

On Saturday, June 13, shoppers are invited to visit St Peter’s Church in Derby to browse stalls selling eco-friendly products and enjoy some refreshments in the vegan-friendly café. Spaces are still available for more small businesses who care about the environment to join the indoor market and interested people can email gemma@derbybids.co.ukto book on.

At the event, creative artist Scraggy Moo, will be running art and craft workshops for children and their families. The art sessions will celebrate sustainability and promote ways to make a positive impact in our community.

The Great Big Green Week runs from June 6-14 and is the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. During the week, communities, schools, businesses, churches, mosques and other groups will join together in a wave of support for action to protect the planet.

Gemma Pindard, Deputy Manager for  St Peters Quarter BID said she is delighted to bring a full programme of activities to the city to celebrate Great Big Green Week.

She said: “We are looking forward to hosting a series of events during the week. One of our plans is to refurbish and restore some of the planters around the city and plant them with shrubs, flowers and bulbs.”
